In 1872, Walter and Alfred Gilbey began to produce Gilbey’s London Dry Gin in their own distillery. By the 1930s the business was such a success that distilleries were opened in Australia and Canada (the distillery in Australia was opened in the late 1920s, and the distillery in Canada was opened in 1933). Walter and Alfred Gilbey’s Gin company eventually became the foundation for International Distillers and Vintners Ltd. Gilbey’s uses orange peel as one of it 12 botanicals to give it’s unique citrus taste.
